Home remodeling projects come in many sizes and shapes — from updating a kitchen or bath to undertaking a large-scale renovation. To complete a project like that on time, within budget and on schedule, it makes sense to hire a renovation company that has actually done it before.

From a one-room addition to a complete interior and exterior house renovation, our staff can guide your project from concept to successful completion.

How we approach it

What matters on a home remodeling & renovation project

  • Older homes get particular care

Most newer homes adapt easily to remodeling. Older San Diego homes — the 1920s Craftsman bungalows in Mission Hills, the post-war stock in Clairemont and Bay Park — require more. The team you hire should have experience with increased structural demands, with aging electrical and plumbing systems, and with the potential presence of asbestos and lead-based paint.

  • Additions that look original

For you to get the full value of your investment, it is critical that changes look like they were part of the original design and not just bolted on. Rooflines, window proportions, trim profiles, and stucco texture all have to carry through — that is the difference between an addition and a remodel that reads as one house.

  • One general contractor, on site

You get a dedicated project manager and team leaders who keep the schedule on track and give you detailed information about your choices and options at every stage — not a rotating cast of subs with no one in charge.

  • Clear scope before demo day

We walk the house, document existing conditions, and put the scope in writing before anything comes apart. Change orders happen on every renovation; the goal is that none of them are surprises about work we should have caught up front.

Home Remodeling & Renovation: common questions

How long does a whole-home remodel take in San Diego?

It depends far more on scope and permitting than on square footage. A cosmetic refresh can run six to ten weeks. A renovation that moves walls, upgrades the electrical service, and reworks plumbing typically runs four to eight months from permit issuance, and jurisdictions in San Diego County vary widely in plan-check turnaround. We give you a schedule with the estimate and update it at each phase.

Do I need a permit to remodel my house?

Almost always, once you go past paint and finishes. Structural changes, new or relocated plumbing and electrical, window and door openings, additions, and re-roofs all require permits in San Diego County jurisdictions. Homes inside the Coastal Zone may also need a Coastal Development Permit. We handle plan submittal and inspections as part of the job.

Can I live in the house during the renovation?

Often yes, if the work can be phased and dust-contained — for example doing the back half of the house first, or keeping one bathroom live throughout. Whole-house projects that shut off water, power, or the kitchen for extended periods are usually easier on everyone if you move out. We will tell you honestly which one your project is at the estimate stage.
